This policy explains what personal data Blackwell Editors collects, why, and what you can do about it. We keep it short and plain. If anything is unclear, email contact@blackwelleditors.com.
1. Who we are
Blackwell Editors is an agency that represents editors and arranges brand promotions on their pages. We are the "controller" of the data described here.
Contact for anything privacy-related: contact@blackwelleditors.com.
2. What we collect and why
If you're a brand using our forms
- What you send us: what you're promoting, your work email, who you want to reach, how big you're thinking, an optional budget, and anything you write to us.
- Why: to send you a shortlist of editors, reply to you and agree a deal.
- Legal basis: steps you asked us to take before a contract (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)), and our legitimate interest in answering business enquiries (Art. 6(1)(f)).
If you sign up for Drops early access or ask for our roster
- What: your email address.
- Why: to send you the roster, or one email when Drops open.
- Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw it at any time by replying to any email or writing to us.
If you're an editor applying to join
- What you send us: your page handle, where you post, your email, what you edit and whether you prefer Roster or List.
- What we look at: the public numbers on your page (followers, views on recent posts, engagement) to work out your median views.
- Why: to decide if we can represent you, and to price deals fairly.
- Legal basis: steps you asked us to take before an agreement (Art. 6(1)(b)).
If you're an editor we represent
- What: your contact details, your agreement, the deals you take, rates, payments and our messages with you and with brands about your deals.
- Why: to run the agreement: find and negotiate deals, write contracts, collect and pay out money.
- Legal basis: our agreement with you (Art. 6(1)(b)) and legal duties such as keeping financial records (Art. 6(1)(c)).
If we contact you first (outreach)
We sometimes reach out to editors and brands using information they made public for business contact: a page handle, public profile numbers and a business email listed in a bio or on a website.
- Why: to offer representation or a collaboration.
- Legal basis: our legitimate interest in contacting businesses and creators about relevant work (Art. 6(1)(f)). Every outreach email tells you how to opt out, and if you do, we stop and keep only what we need to not contact you again.
Emails to our addresses
Brands write to the Blackwell email addresses our Roster editors put in their bios. We read and store those emails to handle the deal for that editor.
We don't sell personal data, and we don't use it for advertising.
3. Cookies
Our website uses no advertising or tracking cookies. Your browser may store small technical settings (for example, a menu you closed) on your own device; those never reach us.
4. Who helps us (processors)
We use a small number of services to run the business. They process data only on our instructions:
When data leaves the EU/UK (for example to the US), it is protected by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where the provider is certified, or by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
5. Brands and editors see some of your data
- When we send a brand a shortlist or our roster, it includes each editor's page, public numbers and recent posts. It never includes an editor's personal email, phone or address.
- When a deal goes ahead, the brand and the editor see what's needed to do the deal (names on the contract, the brief, the post).
6. Young editors
Many editors are young. We only sign editors aged 16 or older, and editors under 18 need a parent or guardian to sign the agreement with them. If you think we hold data about a child who shouldn't have applied, email us and we'll delete it.
7. How long we keep it
- Brand enquiries that don't become a deal: up to 12 months after our last message.
- Drops / roster sign-ups: until you unsubscribe, or 24 months without any contact.
- Editor applications we turn down: up to 12 months, so we don't ask you twice.
- Editors we represent and deal records: for the agreement, then as long as the law requires for financial records (up to 7 years).
- Outreach contacts who opt out: just enough to never contact you again.
8. Your rights
You can ask us to:
- show you the data we hold about you, and give you a copy;
- correct it;
- delete it;
- stop or limit using it, or object to how we use it (including outreach);
- send it to another service in a usable format;
- withdraw consent you gave (it doesn't affect what we did before).
Email contact@blackwelleditors.com. We reply within one month. We may ask you to confirm it's really you first.
If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the data protection authority in the country where you live.
9. Security
Access to our records is limited to our team, protected by passwords and encrypted connections. No system is perfectly safe; if a breach affects you, we'll tell you and the authority as the law requires.
10. Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If the change is significant, we'll tell the people affected by email.
